Florida Gulf Coast Trail Making Progress
By now most everyone knows that the rail corridor that will eventually become the Bonita Estero Rail Trail (BERT) is under contract to be sold. Once complete, BERT will at some point connect to the John Yarbrough Trail to the north along with several other trail segments that make up the 42 mile long Lee County segment of the over 400 mile long Florida Gulf Coast Trail. We call that effort ConnectLEE. What you might be surprised to learn is that real progress is being made on many of the key segments including a trail extension on the north section of the John Yarbrough Trail, construction of a pedestrian bridge over Colonial Boulevard as well as the start of the two year project to construct a pedestrian / bike path on the existing Caloosahatchee Bridge.
