The rail corridor that Seminole Railway has agreed to sell is 14.9 miles in length and 130’ wide for nearly of the corridor’s length.  The southernmost point of the corridor is in Collier County beginning roughly at Wiggins Pass Road then running 1.5 mile to the Lee/Collier County border to the north.  13.4 miles of the corridor is in Lee County that stretches from the county border to Alico Road near the Michael G. Rippe Parkway overpass.   The agreement is for the purchase of the entire 130’ corridor stretching from Wiggins Pass Road to Constitution Circle for a total of 13.7 miles.   Once the sale is completed the railway tracks will be removed and replaced by a 12’ paved multi-use trail for the 13.7 miles.   For the northern most 1.2 miles of the corridor between Constitution Circle and Alico Road, TPL will acquire an easement allowing for the future trail adjacent to the existing railroad tracks.  In this portion of the corridor a 12’ wide trail will be built in the easement that will run parallel with the existing track in a rail-and-trail configuration.    The agreed upon price for the entire 14.9-mile corridor is $82M with Lee County’s portion being just over $74M and Collier County’s portion being just under $8M.  Lee and Collier Counties have until March of 2026 to secure the $82M necessary to complete the sale although the transaction could happen before then.
