Fort Myers City Council Unanimously Endorses Bonita Estero Rail Trail

Deb Orton, President of Friends of Bonita Estero Rail Trail speaks to Fort Myers City Council

On October 16th, Friends of Bonita Estero Rail Trail made the case for supporting a resolution from the Bike/Ped Committee of Fort Myers to endorse BERT to the Fort Myers City Council. The Council unanimously voted to endorse the Bonita Estero Rail Trail Project, following the path of other municipalities, such as the village of Estero and city of Bonita Springs. The Fort Myers City Council’s support gives an official endorsement for the trail and for the project to move forward.

The Bonita Estero Rail Trail will eventually become part of a network of trails in Lee County traversing through Bonita Springs, Estero and downtown Fort Myers, spanning just over 42 miles in length, and eventually becoming part of the 400+ mile Florida Gulf Coast Trail system. Once completed this trail system will provide a significant quality of life benefit and economic boost to Lee County. Its easy to understand why city and village councils of Fort Myers, Bonita Springs and Estero have all endorsed BERT.
