PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Hello Friends of the Bonita Estero Rail Trail and welcome to our October 2023 Newsletter. Here you can read our Year in Review; Our 1st Annual Ride for BERT from Trek Bicycle Store of Estero; and an update on our core purpose, Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety.

15 mile and 30 mile routes
Just 12 months ago we launched Friends of BERT, and in that year we’ve built our membership to 3,000 with Friends from Cape Coral and Fort Myers to San Carlos Park, Estero and Bonita Springs. 21 HOA Communities have formally endorsed Bonita Estero Rail Trail and we’ve built our Volunteer force to 40. We’ve put together a few of the key milestones over the past 12 months. I enjoyed this trip down memory lane and I hope you do too!
Pedestrian and Bike safety is at the core of our Friends of BERT Mission. Lee County remains the worst County, in the State with the worst record for pedestrian and bicycle safety. We must find ways, like this Rail Trail, to separate pedestrians and cyclists from distracted drivers. Let’s do this! Get involved and support Friends of BERT!

MULTI-USE TRAILS ENHANCE PEDESTRIAN AND BICYCLIST SAFETY
Protected trail greenways provide a safe mode of transportation for everyone. The Bonita Estero Rail Trail would provide a 15-mile dedicated multi-use trail that parallels Hwy-41 and Old Hwy-41 that would reduce pedestrian and bicycle traffic on those roads and provide a significant safety benefit.
